Brain Training Report – Cat – Session 16

Session number: 16

Average n-back: 3.4

Duration (estimate in minutes): don’t know

After I got really frustrated in session 14, I finally saw progress in the following two sessions. From 2.6 to 2.85 and today to 3.4. Guess getting a bit upset helps. I have figured out that since then that concentration plays the key role and I think I had my mind wander too much between session 4 and 14. Are there additional ways to train concentration to help improve? I have not noticed changes in my life so far, but hope they will come soon, that would boost my motivation to keep going beyond the 2 months I committed to keep going with the training.

    Hello, Cat.

I’m sorry I didn’t get a chance to respond to your first post. But you did what I would have recommended — you stuck with it.

The training has an odd way of kicking in with an improvement just when we think we’ve hit a plateau.

You’re right that your scores will improve as you focus more. And your focus will improve generally from the work you do in the training. One other supplemental technique we’ve found very helpful is meditation prior to brain training — about eight to ten minutes of quiet, focused meditation seems ideal. (Our SE training includes a meditation module.)

Any day now I expect you’ll begin to notice changes in your daily life. (It may take a little longer than usual since you were training with a little less than full focus for a while.) The benefit usually reveals itself in the way that we most need it. So, perhaps for you this will be a boost in focus.

    Best wishes,
    Martin
