Brain Training Report – Jan

Stage: 1

Session number: 10

Average n-back: 4

Not alert this morning. I have finished the required 10 sessions with stage 1 necessary to go onto the next stage. However, I don’t feel as if I pushed myself enough during this preliminary period. I can go on to the double switchback, but I’m not sure I got enough out of Double Ahead…for instance, I could have pushed myself to remember a aural/visual sequence of 5 or more items but I stayed at a relatively comfortable 4. Also, I noticed that if I made mistakes, it was almost always with the visual part of the program. Anyone with any advice I welcome to sharing. Please feel free to jump in with any input for a newbie. Thanks in advance.

Brain Training Report – Travis – Stage 3, Session 4

Stage: 3

Session number: 4

Average n-back: 3.2

Its coming along. To Claudia: (It won’t let me login to reply directly for some reason): I’m only slightly ahead of you in training sessions and I had the same question. I’m now getting more comfortable at N=3. It doesn’t seem to matter how hard you concentrate in fact that seems to make it worse. It really seems like the key is to get yourself in the right state of mind.
I do try to say the letter and look at the square where I am expecting the answer to be. If its not there, the trick seems to be to not change your state of mind or react mentally/emotionally in anyway to the wrong answer, but replace the answer you were expecting with the new one and keep track of where you are in the sequence. If I can’t get it I just start counting over. If I stop paying attention for even a second or get too excited by getting a right answer, I get out of the zone and stop doing well.

Brain Training Report – PP – Stage 3, Session 27

Saturday, June 23rd, 2012

Stage: 3

Session number: 27

Average n-back: 2.2

I am doing double gapmatch. Strangely, I never seem to score above 12 in any session. The variations go to 12-0 (12 right and no wrong) to 12-7. This is from 27 sessions. Is it a mental block? Or am I mishearing something?

The N=2 block goes usually well, but I cant find a strategy to master N=3. I get confused pretty quickly.

Brain Training Report – Travis – Stage 3, Session 3

Friday, June 22nd, 2012

Stage: 3

Session number: 3

Average n-back: 2.9

Woke feeling foggy and dreading training this morning. I did a little exercise first (10 min. jumping jacks, pushups and sit-ups) then the meditation. Every felt easier! and my score moved up more. The training was less unpleasant too (probably b/c I was doing better).

Brain Training Report – Travis – Stage 3, Session 2

Stage: 3

Session number: 2

Average n-back: 2.45

Started a humbling session 3 for the first time with n=2.35 yesterday. I felt I was doing a lot better today, but n went up only a little because I guessed wrong more often too.

Stage: 2

Session number: 4

Average n-back: 5.08

Feeling slow this morning. I’m coming up with strategies for the visual and audio but I’m not sure if its cheating. Repeating them forwards seems to help for stage two before I enter them in backward. This seems OK. I also tried entering the letters in forwards but using the back space between letters so the order becomes backwards. This seems like cheating so I won’t try that again.
