Brain Training Report – Jan – Stage 2, Session 8

Stage: 2

Session number: 8

Average n-back: 4

I finally am able to have success remembering 4 items. I have cognitive difficulties relating to Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. When I read the success of the other posters I feel really behind…..any input would be very much appreciated. I also noticed that my piano playing is improving without practice! This phenomenon has been remarked on quite a bit on the posting board. Any reason for this?

Brain Training Report – Travis – Stage 3, Session 15

Wednesday, July 11th, 2012

Stage: 3

Session number: 15

Average n-back: 4.4

No improvement in score today even with 20 min of exercise before followed by the 8 min meditation recording. I don’t really feel like I hit the ceiling though. One thing I noticed that I think was starting to help: I count sequences each time equal to the n level and then rewrite the combined sequence for each new letter/block combination. I’ve started waiting roughly a half a second before I try to call up the rest of the sequence after each new pair is introduced and it seems to make it a little easier to remember what just happened without erasing the rest of the sequence from memory. Comments?

Brain Training Report – Ruari – Stage 3, Session 2

The good news about tonight’s session is I can only get better! My brain feels like scrambled egg. The history graph outputs are a mess; all over the place! I had a couple of days off owing to a busier schedule. Wasn’t able to get around to tonight’s exercise until ten at night. After a full belly, some wine, and frustration borne of taking an hour to put my daughter to sleep.Very little distractions, but also little mental energy. Poo-poo for me.

Brain Training Report – Travis – Stage 3, Session 14

Stage: 3

Session number: 14

Average n-back: 4.5

Took the weekend off. Came in this morning and stopped a 2 session micro-slide posting a new top score. N=3 went from challenging to easy. N=4 went from really hard to pretty easy. N=5 has gone from impossible to less impossible. Occasionally I get to stay at n=5 for 2 in a row, but then get bumped down. Gains seem to be slowing, but I’ll be pretty excited to get n=5 to the comfortable level.

I am really feeling my brain pulsing and feeling so drained! I never knew it could give me a slight headache. I am trying to get as many right in n=5.

Whew, what a descent! Double gapmatch is certainly challenging. I took the advice and tried a couple of practice sessions before starting the exercise. After finally cluing in for what was being asked (I hadn’t realized the instruction scree scrolled down further), I made the jump over to training. Not much improvement regrettably. For the first half of the blocks I was roughly one incorrect answer off from moving up to n-3. When I finally succeeded, my n-3 attempt was about 50% successful. Then the distractions began. Namely a bored four year old with random appearances punctuated with a time out from her mother. Lovely. Not. I flip-flopped between the n-2 and n-3 after this, never succeeding much at the higher level. I think it worthwhile to train at the n3 level to become more familiar. I found jumping to n3 from n2 challenging in that I only had to do quite well on my first attempt or lose the ability to gain familiarity at that level. I can say that today is the first day my brain feels it has had a workout. I suppose this is great…

Steady progression. The first day I couldn’t get to n=3, then I got it and n=3 was impossible!. now n=3 is doable but n=4 is impossible so hoping it won’t be long until n=4 is easy :)

Brain Training Report – Brenda

Hi, so I’ve read the recommended training schedule and I was wondering, if the training monitor has me set to start stage 2 after just one session (rather than after the 4 to 5 per week), is it okay to start stage 2 on my next training session, just as the training monitor suggests? Thank you!

Brain Training Report – Ruari – Stage 2, Session 2

Less distractions today, though I just came from ‘Fika’ (coffee and pastry). Session begun with a bit of apprehension. After jumbling the aural and visual sequences in the beginning, I thought it boded ill for the rest of the exercises. Then I tried something different. Instead of trying to repeat the letters in my head, I came up with a quick story to tie them together. Mnemonics. The result was great. Recalling the story was much simpler then the individual letters, and allowed me the opportunity to reverse the sequence at my leisure. This gave me more time to focus on the visual sequence. I quickly passed through the n-5 barrier, and eventually the n-6, culminating in an attempt at n-7. Felt great to have developed a bit of a system. I’ll have to wait and see how well it helps me out in future exercises and greater n-#s.
