Fluid Intelligence Test (Get-Y)

I found a very good fluid intelligence test (called the Graphic Elements Test aka Get-Y) that seemed as good or better than Tri 52 (and with less monotonous items). The test is financially free and culture free, testing visual spatial and pattern recognition ability. This test has an extremely high floor (IQ 129) so I think this test should be an accurate measure of visual pattern recognition intelligence (aka fluid intelligence) for those at or above this level.

I sent my answers in yesterday and should hear in two weeks or less (per the person who scores the test). I am very picky about tests I will take the time to sit through; this was well worth it imo. It seems that many difficult items require very good working memory, particularly visual wm.

    Thanks for that Will!

I am going to answer one question from that test, and then I will make another decision. That is basically the way I operate: I use easy, behavioral, and relevant goals to build momentum. The selling point for the test is the 120 participants that have already done it.

Given your performance on these sort of visual tests, I think you’ll smash it no matter how you proceed.

The good thing is one can take the test twice if one is not happy with a first score.

    Hey dude,

I went through the test once. I’ve not submitted my answers yet, and I’ll keep you posted.

    Shaun.

    Hi Will,

Today the GET-y team sent me my results:

“Hello Shaun, Apologies for the delay in responding to your submission. Congratulations, your balanced score for the GET-y test is 34. Kind regards
    The GET Team.”

Here’s a quote from a previous post of mine:

“I took five hours over two days to complete the GET-Y. Yesterday night I sent it in for marking. I felt confident of about 35 answers, and made educated guesses of another 10 or so answers.”

    I continue:

“I went through the test twice. Both times I spent no more than five minutes on each question; so, for the tough questions, I spent ten minutes, and then made an educated guess; for the easier questions, I spent anywhere for 1 to 4 minutes, and then made a confident answer. That worked out to about 5 hours altogether for the 46 questions. Given more time, I probably could answer 2 or 3 more with even greater confidence. Thanks for the referral!”

That was my process. So what does it all mean? Without getting into vertiginous analysis, according to the norm chart it means that I reached the ≥99,9988% percentile, and a ≥163 IQ for my age group. Here are some additional points:

    a. this score is vastly higher than other results: WAIS-III 139; gIQ 144; Tractatus Logicus 138; and some others too,

    b. this score reflects purely visual reasoning,

    c. the norms for this test come from a limited sample of 120 participants, I think,

    d. the score reflects my ability after over 80 hours of training with Brain Fitness Pro.

While this isn’t coercive evidence that BFPro increases intelligence, this does indicate that at I’m probably moving in the right direction.

Okay. So there’s been a mistake. I recieved an e-mail today informing me of the error:

“Hi, after getting back home today I noticed that our script which we use for scoring of test made odd scores to last group of test takers. Noticed the errors for the scores sent on 21.8.2009. which other test creator has sent. In order not to spread disinformation I inform you that scores you have received is possibly invalid. As soon as I deal with issue I will send you correct scores, your score might as well be correct but those I have checked (few out of some 50 were not). I am sending this email to all sent score reports in order to inform you of an error. Apology for inconvenience, Djordje”

So that made sense to me, because I felt that a balanced score of 35 would be extremely high. In the following e-mail, I found out that my balanced score is much lower than 35!

“Hello Shaun, Due to an error, the GET-y score which was sent to you recently was the raw score instead of the balanced score. Your BALANCED [emphasis added] score for the test was in fact 20. Our apologies for the mistake. Kind regards, The GET Team.”

Okay, so 20 is not 35, and it’s not equivalent of an IQ in excess of 164! What does it mean? It indicates a percentile rating of 99.87% and an IQ rating of 145. My own sense is that that is a much more realistic result!

    As Nanz might say: onwards.

Do you guys know how reliable and accurate these tests are ? I’ve scored anywhere from 120-132 on these online tests. I’m not sure what my iq is anymore lol, share your wisdom with me thanks !

    Tests I’ve taken

High iq society hard test 127-132 (depending on how tired i am and how lucky i get with the questions, some are knowledge questions)

iqtest.dk first time 126 (cple of weeks later did it again and solved some of the ones I couldn’t figure out the first time and end up with 132)

    mensa workout 24 / 30

many other matrixes test similar to iqtest.dk 126-128 (some made by mensa as well) (Cong’s iq test 1)

on not so accurate tests: 110-130 (or maybe they are accurate, these are tests that claim to be phd certified etc.)

nicologic.free.matrixb / dominoes tests etc…. 115-123 I found these hard for some reason or maybe I was tired

    Tri52 – 135
    Get-Y – 138

^ I was very surprise by my score on these 2 tests but the weird thing is i failed the CFNSE test, 0-10 balance score with 1 being at like 97% percentile and I got 0 (this was the submit and auto score one, not sure if there is a different CFNSE test)

I have no idea where my iq is at, at one time I thought it was somewhere from 110-117 and then It seem reasonable anywhere from 120-125…and now it could be 130 or higher, I have no idea.

I also do very poorly on verbal tests because I don’t know the vocabulary and my crystallized knowledge I believe is low.

    Hi Dave,

Thanks for posting. I’ve taken some of the tests that you mentioned. If you search my previous posts, you’ll find many details of my results. I’ve taken the following one’s that you’ve also taken:

    a. high IQ society
    b. iqtest.dk
    c. MENSA workout
    d. TRI52
    e. GET-Y

If I’ve the time, which is unlikely, I’ll try to post a summary of my results on these and other tests. That would enable you to compare your scores to my own.

    Hello, Will, Shaun, Everyone.

On Monday I took the Get-Y. Today I received my score – balanced 16, converting to 99.87 percentile.

I preferred this test to the TRI52, finding it more varied and therefore more interesting. So, I would hesitate to say that my fluid intelligence has improved by 0.87 percentile points since I took the TRI52 (on which I scored around the 99.0 percentile.)

It was also interesting to find out that I’d clearly chosen incorrectly for a good proportion of my answers when I felt pretty confident about my answers overall.

(I spent about 1.5 hours on the test.)

  10. Shaun Luttin says:

    Hi Martin, Will, Joe, everyone…

Several months ago I received my GET-Y balanced score – 16 converting to 99.87 percentile as well (because of my being 29 years old and so younger than Martin).

Martin, I find this surprising given that your duel n-back score far surpasses my own score. To what can that be attributed to? Does my brain work differently than does your brain. Does yours rely more on working memory whereas mine more on some other process? Would an increase in my duel n-back score to your level show a further increase in my GET-Y score?

Thanks for posting your results on this test. Also, have you had any progress on gaining access to an on-line version of Raven’s Progressive Matrices? I would much love to take this test.

    Warm regards,
    Shaun

By the way, the links that I posted above are broken. That’s because I deleted a Google Apps account of mine. My apologies. Martin, could you please delete the links.
