Brain Plasticity And Working Memory Training

A study at the Swedish medical university Karolinska Institutet has shown for the first time that the active training of the working memory brings about brain change that is visible on a PET scan.

Training working memory changed the number of dopamine receptors in the training subjects — the neurotransmitter dopamine has a critical role in the brain’s good functioning, assisting with short term memory and problem-solving. Problems with the dopamine system have also been connected to dysfunctions such as ADHD and schizophrenia.

This is direct evidence of brain plasticity induced by the kind of intensive working memory training employed by Brain Fitness Pro. Although we’ve had plenty of indirect evidence from the benefits we’ve accrued from the training.
