After a relatively hum drum week of brain training (compared to recent fireworks), today produced three new highs — for dual n-back: 10.9, for the combined training with nines: 10.275 and for absolute n-level reached: 13 (by scoring 2 misses at n=12 on the last block of the session).

What do you mean when you refer to “dual n-back” and especially when you refer to “combined training with nines”? I’ve just started the MindSparke program today, and I think the “dual n-back” is the basic MindSparke training program, is that what you mean? But although I’ve searched for the term “combined training with nines” everywhere, I can’t find a thing, except of course for your blogs. Would you elaborate on this combined technique? Is it something you developed yourself? It sounds very promising, and I’m interested in trying it. Probably a lot of people would be interested! Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.
Hello, Gayle.
Yes, you’re right, “dual n-back” is the training exercise used in the current version of Mind Sparke’s Brain Fitness Pro. We’re working on a new version of the program that will have additional training exercises. One of the new exercises is “nines” – a variation on the regular dual n-back exercise.
I’ve been working with a pre-release version of the new training program doubling up the regular training with the “nines” training, and I’ve found the results to be spectacular. We hope to have the new training system available in a matter of weeks.
Best wishes,
Martin
Okay, now it makes sense – thank you for your response, Martin. Am I making this up, or did I read somewhere that future downloads are free if you have already purchased the program? By the way, I love the program; I’m becoming addicted. I do my training right before bed, so I can “sleep on it” and consolidate my progress.
Hello, Gayle.
You’re right; for all current customers, future upgrades of the software are free.
It’s a little complicated, as we’re soon switching to a subscription based model for the primary training platform, but we’ll be maintaining a version of the training for download – this download will be what existing customers receive at no charge (it won’t be everything that’s on-line but it will have the “nines” exercise).
