Brain Training Report – Richard H – Stage 3, Session 39

Stage: 3

Session number: 39

Average n-back: 2.5

I’ve finished stage 3, but I could not grasp n=3. I was 95% perfect on n=2 apart from some odd days where my concentration was bad. I go to pieces on n=3 and really find it hard to get my score even to n=2.6! are there any other tips? I try to meditate and do the session in one go. should I do two a day or just keep going on, should I go back to stage one and work my way up? People talk about chunking on other forums, and the intuitive method..Is it just a matter of (more) time to move past this plateau I seem to be on?

    Hello, Richard.

You may want to spend some more time at Stage 3 and try a few new ways to master n=3. Even though the program has moved you on to Stage 4 you can still keep practicing at Stage 3 by clicking on the green checkmark.

I’d suggest Practice mode at n=3, first working on visual, then on aural. Try to think in chunks of three, or in a triplet rhythm.
    1, 2, 3,
    2, 2, 3,
    3, 2, 3… etc

This usually makes it a lot easier to spot the matches. And in Practice mode you don’t have the anxiety of dropping back to n=2.

Give yourself the license to just Practice for three days. One day Practice visual sequences at n=3. The next Practice aural sequences at n=3. And on the third day Practice both aural and visual at n=3.

Then go back to the regular Stage 3 training and see whether you’ve cracked it!! If not, repeat this process as necessary. It will come eventually.

I’d recommend that you stay at Stage 3 until you find that your score occasionally pops up to n=4.

    Best wishes,
    Martin
