I got everything correct for the first 16 rounds or so, then I actually almost physically felt my brain being exercise and worn out, and I got a couple incorrect at N=6. I’m really liking these exercises

I Squeaked up to a 4.4 on my 44th birthday! It’s weird the way the auditory memory is more sticky than the visual. It seems like the process of updating my visual sequence each time is less reliable and I tend to forget what comes next after a visual change in the sequence, not the auditory. It has been this way since the beginning. Once I master a level (working on 4) this problem disappears.

Double Switchback
This exercise was much more challenging then the first one. Holding the letters and sequences in my head was akin to cradling a water in my cupped hands. Having to recite them in reverse after repeating them in sequence effectively spread my fingers open. I found I had little retention time in my head as I worked to sort out the correct reverse sequence. The middle sequences suffered the most. More specifically, the sequence for the second grouping became jumbled as they waited their turn to become regurgitated. Eventually they got lost in the sea of previous responses.

So, retention time was weak. And I seem dependent on orderly mental repetition. Outside stressors reduced my comfort and attention level (upset child, mother-in-law, and wife all making guest appearances into my open ‘work’ space). I found this reduced my ability and desire to focus.

Got up to N-7, made one attempt at trial 19/20, failed miserably, and then completed on N-6.

Had a similar experience when attempting to break through the N-5 level. Seems brain expends much energy trying to synthesize everything and, after several sessions, needs a moment of respite. For me these ‘breaks’ both came after the successful climb to a higher level, and roughly five minutes of activity or halfway through and at the end. I should try to keep track of the time next time to see if this is a trend. If so, it will be interesting how the mental endurance develops with the training sessions. I suspect this is one of the main outcome goals.
Positive eperience thus far. Have attempted those puzzles in the past, albeit not much. could be that the progress is not as pronounced as with other users. Regardless, look forward to seeing it through.

Hi Martin
I have been a little inconsistent for the last month or so, sometimes only training once a week. How often should I be training at this stage, and is there something I should do to make up for “lost sessions”?

Also, I am having trouble really improving at n=6. I think n=5 is ok when I am not tired. Can you give me any tips to make some progress?

Many thanks

I am having a hard time finishing these on one session. Is it ok to split up one session between 2 days? Will I still get results?

N=6 was harder than I thought, but I am definitely feeling challenged and I need to improve my thinking and memory, so I’m in the right place. I am able to move forward, but I feel that I should stay on the double ahead for at least one or two more days.

I have done some meditation before beginning brain training… but I don’t feel the pulse of light referred to near the end of Martin’s guided meditation. Could you explain what this refers to?

Hi there. So I completed stage 1 and 2 in one sitting and this is my 8th session at stage 3. I tried adding a session of stage 1 or 2 with every session of stage 3, as my training has been irregular since I just moved. I was just wondering if there was a certain n=# at which I could just skip ahead to stage 4 without completing the 50 sessions of stage 3, or if it was just better to stick with it till the end. Thanks!
