Brain Training Report – Kevin – Stage 3, Session 18

Stage: 3

Session number: 18

Average n-back: 5.55

Hey Martin; I’ve been noticing a really odd occurrence as I have been training, and that is that my BFI tends to drop around 7 points in between my daily training sessions. By this I mean right after I trained on Thursday night, my BFI was sitting at 427. However, as I logged on to train tonight, my BFI was sitting at 420. Why does this drop occur when I haven’t done anything in between the sessions?

Brain Training Report – Wayne – Stage 3, Session 19

Saturday, April 21st, 2012

Stage: 3

Session number: 19

Average n-back: 2.95

I seem stuck and am not getting beyond 3.0. I don’t know if it’s simply a limited memory issue or if I’m going about it the wrong way. I know some people lean toward intuition while others come up with effective strategies. Any strategy I try doesn’t work for me, and yet others are posting higher scores. I’ve read that it’s not really about scores but about training continuity and development. Still, it’s not fun to be stuck at 2.95-3.0. Does anybody out there have tips for a situation like mine? Brain Training Report – Tom – Stage 2, Session 5

Wednesday, April 18th, 2012

Stage: 2

Session number: 5

Average n-back: 4.4

If I don’t record my answers quickly, they disappear from my mind. Though I am getting more secure in the n=4, n=5 is freaking me out a little, so I push to try it, but move down when I get too many wrong answers in a row. As soon as I think of anything else during the training, I am lost! haha

Brain Training Report – Mateusz – Stage 3, Session 15

Sunday, April 15th, 2012

Stage: 3

Session number: 15

Average n-back: 4.9

I jumped from 3.95 to 4.9 in one session merely by changing method.

Before that session I was trying to remember whole sequence as one and discarding one block/letter at a time. For example on n=4 and sequence A,B,C,D,E,B,G,D I would remember
1. A B C D
2. (A) B C D E
3. (B) C D E B [MATCH]
4. (C) D E B G
5. (D) E B G D [MATCH]

Now I split sequence into two subsequences. For above example I remember:
1 (A B) (C D)
2 (A B) (C D) (E)
3 (A B) (C D) (E B) [MATCH]
4 (C D) (E B) (G)
5 (C D) (E B) (G D) [MATCH]

For N=5 I split sequence into two subsequences 2 and 3 blocks/letters long, alternating between 2 and 3.

And now I feel pretty comfortable on N=5 and sometimes stay on N=6. However I feel like I’m cheating a little bit ;>. I hope new method doesn’t make my training less effective. What do you think?

Brain Training Report – Tom G – Stage 2, Session 3

Friday, April 13th, 2012

Stage: 2

Session number: 3

Average n-back: 3.65

I am on Level 2 and having a difficult time working the n-4 sessions so I keep moving down to n-3. For some reason that extra factor in the sequence trips me up. But I keep working at it.

Stage: 1

Session number: 3

Average n-back: 4.35

My original BFI was 147 and dropped to 136. I’m not sure how the BFI is calculated before one even begins… still trying to figure out how this website is laid out. I’m finding the website generally a bit confusing nonetheless, doing the exercises. I completed Stage one in two days. Not sure if that was how I was supposed to do that… Oh well, I keep reading through the site and trying to follow the instructions.
