Question understanding the exercise

The following sequence   N=2

R-T-S-T-S-F

How many matches in this sequence 1 or 2?  Is T a match then S starts a new sequence or is T and S a match?

    The answer is that there are two matches — the Ts and the Ss. Matches can overlap.
