Session number: 206
Average n-back: 6.9
Duration (min.): 25
Ties for my best session, might have been higher if I did not lose focus on the last few sessions (turning into a pattern).
On session #15 I hit N=9 for the first time ever. This was such a rush that on #16 I almost stayed at 9 (chunking into 5/4) but ended up getting 6 wrong, thus throwing me back to 8 back.
From there, it was a sad, slippery slope to (oh hell) 5 back, where I ended the session, thankfully with 0 errors and putting me back at 6 back for my first session…
Could a dopaminergically-induced Hubris be the cause of this N-back fall? Maybe.
Who knows…in any event, one of my more exciting blocks, and though disappointed that I did not reach an average of 7 back it was great to hit a new high at 9 back.

Hey, Will.
Well done! It’s very exciting to get to a new level.
(The fall back down and the dip over the last few rounds are very familiar to me.)
Martin
Thanks, Martin.
Yep, I think of it as building endurance as much as anything. One can see how the endurance aspect of the training would translate into taking long exams.
About the hubris – Thoreau asserted that he “will not through humility become the devils attorney.” And I love that. Will, as you let your own light shine, you automatically liberate others people to do the same (to paraphrase someone). Keep up the boasting, because I find it to be inspiring not unbecoming! Congratulations.
